Xenoiré

Cult of the Troll Healer Goddess

History

Before Time

Xenoiré was the daughter of Stygia and Azrael, sister to Nakala and Zorak Zoran. Xenoiré became the antithesis of her brother, a kind and gentle healer. She refused to become embroiled in the creation of the Great Darkness and only took up arms when Chaos threatened to destroy the things she loved. For a while she ostracized her brother, when he killed the Sun and wounded Lucifer, who taught her the healing arts. But she forgave the Troll Death God, for forgiveness is her nature. Thus she forgave Viking when he raped her and showed kindness to the brat she bore him, and later took under her wing the Trollkin. She even showed compasion to the Cave Trolls, her kin by Satanus.

Since Time

In Darkness dominated areas, Xenoiré's cult is as widespread as Lucifer's is elsewhere, but it is rarely as well structured, with many healers wandering alone attached to gangs, villages and tribal groups.

Life After Death

Like Lucifer, Xenoiré grants her followers resurrection and half cost Death Divints. Upon their final demise, cultists become Spirits of Healing and Darkness.

Runic Associations

Xenoiré possesses the usual Troll Runes of Darkness and Man, plus the Life Rune whence the cult derives its faith, power and outlook.

Nature of Cult

The cult exists to provide a source of healers in Troll society. In it's various beliefs it is like Lucifer, but cultists have no combat restrictions, for Xenoiré remains ever so slightly Trollish.

Socio-Political Position and Power

The cult does not have much power and in any case cultists are not inclined to use it. The Healers are generally highly thought of, but some Trolls disdain them for consorting with Trollkin and Cave Trolls, especially Poonin subversives.

Particular Likes and Dislikes

Xenoiré is associated to all the members of the Troll Pantheon and is especially close to her mother. Poonin is favoured, but Xenoiré frowns upon his extreme Ends Justifies the Means policy. The Troll Healer remains close to her bastard son Shadowjack. Xenoiré dislikes chaos despite her association to Lowbrow. Selene and Phoenix are greatly feared. Zadok & Banuril are not actively oppressed, but a Chaos Druid would have to be extreemly careful in his dealings with the Troll Healers or he might find a Zorak Zoran warparty led by a Deathlord coming his way one night. Xenoiré dislikes the Lightbringers, but will not refuse them healing. Lucifer is actually liked, as he was the source of Xenoiré's powers, but this has not been returned since Zorak Zoran wounded Lucifer and slew Helios.

Organisation

The cult has a much open and looser structure than Lucifer. No cultist owes alleigance to any particular Temple and most become attached to other social groups. Some feel the desire to wander far away to bring healing to other peoples. As such they are commonly used as ambassadors and envoys for the Trollands.

Centres of Power and Holy Places

The cult is only of influence in the Trollands. It has no especial Holy Places.

Holy Days and High Holy Days

The seasonal Holy Day occurs on Freeze Day of Fertility Week, that in Dark Season if the High Holy Day.

Lay Membership

Xenoiré allows all races to join, but dislikes Chaos, and all must swear to dedicate themeselves to the Healing Arts. Then they must pass a test of (INT+CHA)×72% with non-Trolls at −10 CHA, and Chaots at −5 CHA. Failure for a Chaotic is final and he may not reapply. Lay Members can gain training in First Aid, Diagnosis, Treat Poison and Treat Disease at full cost and the spells of Healing and Darkwall at half price; plus Countermagic, Protection and Beffuddle at full cost. There is no weapons training for Lay Members.

Initiate Membership

Lay Members may Initiate once they have Diagnosis and First Aid at 50%. They must pass a test of (INT+CHA)×52+(Diagnosis+First Aid) ⁄ 2% with CHA penalties as for the Lay Member test. Failures may reapply once per season unless Chaotic, in which case failure is final. Initiates must swear never to harm a living being unless to defend themselves or others.

Training is available in the parries of Heavy and Light Mace, and Medium Shield at full cost, attacks at double cost. The Lay Member skills are now at half price and training in Read/Write Own Language, Create Healing Potion, Poison Antidote, Find Healing Plants and Taste Analysis is all at full cost.

Healing and Darkwall are free; Countermagic, Protection and Befuddle at half price. Anyone Befuddled is automatically under the Healer's protection, as the victim is helpless and harmless. All other spells are at full cost save for Ignite, Light, Lightwall, Firearrow and Fireblade which are unavailable, though not specifically forbidden.

Initiates are expected to provide healing to any that need it. They must never start bloodshed or provoke an opponent into the same.

Runelord Membership

Xenoiré Runelords are both masters of the Healing Arts and protectors of the weak. Requirements are 15+ POW and 90% in First Aid, Diagnosis, Treat Disease, Treat Poison and one other cult skill, (which if a weapon must be two compatible parries), they must also know Healing VI and must not be chaotic. They are inaugurated upon a High Holy Day and given a complete set of Lead armour. They gain all the normal benefits of their status and all the usual restrictions. Allied Spirits are placed in giant scarabs bred for the purpose.

Runepriesthood

A candidate for the priesthood must have 18+ POW, have been an Initiate for at least two years and 75% in all four half price cult skills required for Runelord. Upon ordination, these become unlimitted as if a Runelord, though all DEX based skills are reduced to DEX×5% and there is no time for DEX training. No Chaotic Initiates may achieve Runelevel. Allied Spirits, like Runelords are placed in Scarabs as Familliars. Runepriests must spend at least one season per year in a Temple of their choice teaching spells and skills to Initiates. They gain all the normal benefits and restrictions of their status.

Runespell Compatibility

Xenoiré Runepriests gain access to all Standard one point Runspells, plus Dismiss Elemental I, II & III. They summon Small Shades as their elementals, but must be very careful in their use, for they are most dangerous and could hurt somebody.

One Point Spells

Create Healing Potion Range: Touch; Duration: Instant; Non-Stackable; Reusable
Activates a potion created using the Prepare Healing Potion skill. This potion will heal as many points of damage as there are Battlemagic POW points placed in the potion, the maximum does effective however is limmitted by the casters Healing spell. Thus 24 points of POW will heal 24 points of damage, but the maximum single does will be limited to Healing VI, if that was the caster's spell level. Cultists usually carry carefully marked measuring devices in order to get the maximum effect from their potions.

Darkheal Range: Touch; Duration: 15 mins; Stackable; Reusable
Causes a dark sphere to completely engulf the recipient within which he is protected from the environment and the POW for Healing is reduced by half. Further the spell can be applied to one location round afetr round without waiting. The recipient sleeps for the duration of the spell and regains POW at five times the normal rate. Stacking doubles the duration of the spell.

Slow Poison Range: 160m; Duration: 15 mins; Stackable; Reusable
Arrests the affects of a poison in one victim for the duration of the spell, allowing time for treatment. Each extra points stacked increases the recipients by one, or doubles the duration.

Summon Spirit of Healing Range: 60m; Duration: 15 mins; Non-Stackable; Reusable
Summons the weak spirit (POW 2D6+6) of a recently dead cultist. The spirit may engage in Spirit Combat if necessary, but is more attuned to healing services having Healing VI. It is especially useful for combating Spirits of Disease. If destroyed, then the spell must be resacrificed for. The spirit automatically flees when its POW falls below 3.

Two Point Spells

Cure Disease Range: Touch; Duration: Instant; Non-Stackable; Reusable
Can be used to cure any physical disease, those that attack characteristics require a successful attack of POW vs. amount of characteristic lost. It does not restore any lost characteristic points. Failure causes the caster to be exposed to the disease.

Fertility Rite Range: 40ml Duration: 1 hr; Non-Stackable; Reusable
Cast during a ceremony on the High Holy Day. Involves the sacrifice of a black bull, ram or goat. Causes all female cattle, sheep and goats belonging to the partakers in the ceremony to conceive during the coming year if served. Also, all the female Trolls in the ceremony will become pregnant and give birth during Earth Season. When cast at any other time, it is non-reusable and affects one female creature. This spell is responsible for the high fecundity among the Troll race.

Heal Constitution Range: Touch; Duration: 15 mins; Non-Stackable; Reusable
Causes the recipient to regain CON lost due to poison or such-like attack at 1 point per minute. Does not affect disease-ravaged CON.

Regeneration Range:Touch; Duration: 15 mins; Non-Stackable; Reusable
Causes the recipient to begin healing all damage at 1 hit point per minute provided dismemberment has not occurred. Can be used to regenerate limbs, but only at the expense of the spells reusability.

Three Point Spells

Resurrection Range: Touch; Duration: Instant; Non-Stackable; Non-Reusable
Resurrects one dead person as per Cults of Prax p69.

Subservient Cults

Spirit of Reprisal

Xenoiré is not vindictive, but she demands that her worshippers keep faith with their vows and so anyone breaking them will discover that all forms of Troll Healing will cease to function until they have done a penance.

Proball - The Trollkin Trollball Cult

This cult is one that attracts the athletic Trollkin that take up careers as balls in Trollball teams - a very skilled position.

Associate Cults

Lowbrow

Xenoiré is the only Troll Cult to have offered the Cave Trolls any succour from the moment they were born. In recognition of this Lowbrow Crazynerk offers the following spell.

Defend Against Light Range: 160m; Duration: 15 mins; Stackable to 4 pts; Reusable; 1 pt Functions as two points of Shimmer per point stacked. Double effect versus any Initiate of a Fire/Light Cult.

Poonin

Again Xenoiré is the Trollkin's only true friend, he offers her the following spell.

Face Fear Range: 160m; Duration: 15 mins; Non-Stackable; Reusable; 2 pt
Confers immunity to all morale based attacks.

Shadowjack

The Thief has remained close to his mother, and gives her the following spell so that she may defend herself without permanently harming the opposition.

Blackjack Range: Touch; Duration: 15 mins; Non-Stackable; Reusable; 1 pt
Cast upon any 1-H blunt weapon. Functions as True Sword, save that the damage done cannot reduce a location below 0, or total hits below 1.

Stygia

Xenoiré is closest to her mother and the two are inseparable from Troll society. Stygia gives her daughter the following spell so that she might see in light places.

Darksee Range: 160m; Duration: 15 mins; Stackable; Reusable; 1 pt
Allows creatures which see best in Darkness to see in daylight and vice versa. Negates the effect of daylight upon Trollkin and Cave trolls. Each extra point stacked doubles the duration.

Zorak Zoran

Xenoiré is fond of her brother despite his complete opposition to all her ideals. He too looks to her for healing after his bloody battles, and in order that she may defend herself from harm when he is not there, he gives her the following spell.

Fear Range: 160m; Duration: Instant; Non-Stackable; Reusable; 1 pt
Allows the caster to attack one victim as if by the initial attack of a shade with POW equal to that of the caster.

Miscellaneous Notes

The Sub-Cult of Proball

Lay Member Trollkin wishing for careers in the Trollball arena may join this sub-cult as Initiates.

Initiates learn weapon skills as Xenoiré, but non-weapon skills are Curl-Up (improtant for the functioning of certain skills by the Centre and Q.B.), Glide (to aid the passing game), Cling (to prevent fumbles by the ball carriers) and First Aid (in case of accidents). The cult teaches Darkwall and Healing for free plus Protection and Coordination at half price, all other skills and spells as for Xenoiré.

The cult has Runelords but not Runepriests. The trollkin may use a half cost Runelord Divint once per season to gain an extra point of racial maximum POW and become a Runelord. Subsequent Divints can raise his maximum POW still further. Eventually the Trollkin will retire and most join Xenoiré as healers. Runelords are called Proballs and may compete for one of the places in the many Trollball teams. Success brings recognition and possibly greatness, this is the only way a Trollkin can do this in Troll Society. A Trollkin Proball gains a full set of Lead made to his own specifications, plus all the normal benefits of Runelord. He is expected to bear his team insignia proudly at all times.
